MAYO® Conservative Hip Prosthesis*
A patient's first hip replacement surgery is known as a "primary surgery"
and replacement of the primary prosthesis is known as a "revision surgery."
With any primary hip replacement surgery, a certain amount of bone is
removed to make room for the hip prosthesis. A conservative approach to bone
removal leaves bone stock for future revisions if required. The MAYO Hip, a
porous hip implant, is used in primary hip replacement surgery and is
designed to require less bone removal than traditional primary hip implants.
This makes the MAYO Hip an option surgeons may consider for younger hip
replacement patients.
