Why is Flexion Important to You?
Many activities of daily life require flexion (your ability to bend at the knee). The degree of how deeply you can bend, and your range of motion, affects the activities you may or may not be able to engage in. Consider climbing stairs and standing from a sitting position-activities that sometimes require flexion up to 120 degrees. Flexion is bending of the knee joint, whereas extension is straightening of the knee joint. In flexion/extension, the knee has a normal range of motion from 0 to 120 to 140 degrees. Normal walking requires about 70 degrees of flexion. Going down stairs requires about 90 degrees of flexion and going up requires a little less. Sitting and rising from a sitting position requires between 90 and 110 degrees.
The LPS-Flex Fixed Knee is designed to provide up to 155 degrees for patients who are capable of this level of active flexion.
